manroland Announces Sponsorship Deal with PrintIT!

Leading press manufacturer manroland GB has announced its support for the Prin-tIT! initiative with a cash sponsorship.
Commenting on the news, Paul Evans, Project Director for PrintIT!, a Proskills driven initiative, said: “It's really great to have such a well known industry name as manroland backing our work. It's also particularly pleasing to receive a cash sum, as this gives us the flexibility to channel the support where it is most needed. Whilst we are also very grateful to receive materials and equipment donations, money is, of course, always in short supply!”

PrintIT! is a major initiative to encourage young people to embark on careers in the UK printing industry. Led by Proskills, PrintIT! is a joint venture between the print-ing industry, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and leading charity The Fairtrade Foundation. It is targeted at Year 9 and Year 10 students studying GCSE Graphic Products and Product Design.
“Some 1,000 schools and more than 80,000 students have taken part in PrintIT! so far, and, as always, we would like to thank everyone that has helped make the pro-ject such a great success,” added Paul Evans.
Norman Revill, speaking on behalf of manroland, said: “I have been a long-time fan of this initiative, and am personally delighted that manroland has again been able to offer some financial support. The printing industry is a great industry, and it is vital to show youngsters how exciting it can be. It offers so many different employment opportunities, from the glitzy world of graphic design, through to the oil and grease of the engineering department – it really does have something for everybody – and if PrintIT! can continue to introduce school pupils to the many and varied sides of print, it can only be good for the industry as a whole.”
The sponsorship from manroland will help to further open the door for manroland customers to work with schools local to their area. A number of such twinning initiatives are already underway with some of the UK's leading newspaper printing sites.
The current PrintIT! Project offers students the opportunity, between September and the end of December 2008, to plan a print-based campaign on behalf of Fair-trade. The process will offer students the chance to gain an understanding of the range of careers available in the modern, high-technology printing industry. Suc-cessful schools and students will once again win substantial prizes. A comprehen-sive Teachers Pack with a complete scheme of learning is provided containing everything required to run a successful and exciting course without the need for additional research.
