manroland Users Celebrate Awards Success
manroland users were very much to the fore at the PrintWeek Awards 2008, held on October 20 at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane.
The ultimate accolade, PrintWeek Company of the Year, was won by York Mailing, users of a four-unit LITHOMAN IIIS 48pp heat-set press, with fellow manroland press users Pindar and Benson Group also in the short-list for this honour. For York Mailing the award represented continued success following its 2006 win in the Environmental Printer category.
The short-list for the 2008 Catalogue Printer of the Year category, sponsored by our friends at Goss International, represented a “clean-sweep” for manroland, with all of those in the final four using manroland presses. Southernprint was adjudged the winner in this section – a company equipped with both web and sheetfed product from manroland. The other short-listed businesses were Garnett Dickinson Print, Precision Colour Printing, and St Ives Web Roche.
St Ives Direct Crayford did a splendid double, winning both the Packaging Printer of the Year and the award for Customer Magazine Printer of the Year. The latter victory focused on the exceptional Ferrari magazine, produced on Crayford’s manroland 700 DirectDrive press – the UK’s first DirectDrive machine. Once again fellow manroland users Southernprint and St Ives Web Roche ran a close second, with both commended for their efforts.
On the newspaper front, manroland was at the fore again with Trafford Park Printers taking the honours in the Newspaper Printer of the Year section for its printing of The Guardian. Trinity Mirror Printing was also short-listed, with both its Watford and Midlands plants being included.
Southernprint claimed its second prize of the night with a win in the Consumer Magazine Printer of the Year – another category well represented by manroland users, with Pindar, Precision Colour Printing, St Ives Web Peterborough, and St Ives Web Plymouth all in hot pursuit.
Last, but by no means least, SMP Group scored another awards success in the Poster Printer of the Year category, where it was praised for its work with lenticular technology. The company utilises a manroland 900XXL large-format sheetfed press.
Commenting on an exciting evening for the industry, Norman Revill, Managing Director of manroland GB, said: “These evenings focus on the very best in print in the UK, and it always a great pleasure to see so many of our manroland customers being awarded for their excellence.”
