This news follows hard on the heels of an order for a ten-unit version of the ROLAND 700 HiPrint incorporating a reel sheeting device, which will provide economies with regard to paper purchasing.
The ROLAND 700 HiPrint will provide for B1 printing in a 5/5 perfecting configuration, with an Inline Sheeter device cutting sheets for the press from a web reel. The ROLAND 900XXL will print four colours on a 7B sheet size of 1200 x 1620mm.
The total order is valued in the region of £4 million, and installation of the ROLAND 700 is already underway. The now confirmed ROLAND 900XXL installation will follow.
Commenting on the decision to buy from manroland, Managing Director of Scotprint, Tommy Montgomery, said: “We did look at the three main suppliers, and evaluated these companies across a whole range of criteria, including price, deliv-ery and back-up service, as well as the quality of the equipment itself. manroland definitely ticked more boxes than the rest. They have a good team, and some excellent technologies, such as the remote diagnostics system.”
With regard to the timing of the order, Mr Montgomery added: “Our Scotprint plant is certainly due for an update with regard to presses – our last purchase was in 2000. Presses have come on quite a way since then, especially with regard to running and make-ready speeds – these machines are a certainly much more productive. The new machines will also allow us to fully explore the potential for JDF connections throughout the business – that is definitely part of the plan.”
Scotprint print single, two and four colour books for many leading UK publishers. The company is focused on three main book markets: educational books, which tend to be either sewn, slotted, PUR or wire stitched and can also produce large sized publications, which are four wire-stitched inline, up to a size of 594 x 420mm; trade books and film/TV tied publications, which are normally sewn or slotted and although Scotprint do not have a “casing in” facility, sister company Hunter & Foulis housed in the adjacent factory have all the necessary equipment; children’s books, which are usually wire stitched or sewn in two 16’s and where “casing in” is required, these would be bound at Hunter & Foulis. Scotprint also have a fulfillment facility and are able to individually shrinkwrap, insert CD’s and accommodate many other client needs. Scotprint runs a continental shift system, meaning that the plant is operational virtually 24/7, allowing for fast turnaround times throughout the year.
Commenting on the order on behalf of manroland, Sales Director for Sheetfed Sales, Gary Doman, said: “Naturally we are delighted to be supplying Scotprint with these two press configurations. We believe that these two machines will provide the enhanced levels of productivity that the company requires in order to further expand its business. We also believe that this installation will create a production facility that will be the envy of other printers across the country, and will represent the start of a partnership between Scotprint and manroland that will extend long into the future.”
