manroland Celebrates 100 Years with Print Journalists

ImageMitcham-based manroland GB began its 2008 centenary celebrations with an event at its Morden Road offices for print industry journalists. The event also highlighted the German press manufacturing company’s success at a recent major tradeshow in Dusseldorf, which had been attended by British members of staff and many British printing companies.

One of the major stories under discussion at the event was the change of name of the company, from MAN Roland GB to manroland GB. The name change reflects the new independence of the organisation as it moves away from the former parent MAN Group.

With regard to the centenary, manroland GB is the current name of a business that started trading in printing equipment in 1908. Current Managing Director of the company, Norman Revill, told the assembled trade media: “I consider it a tremendous personal honour to be running this business as it heads into its one-hundredth year as a supplier of printing equipment to British printers.” Following in the footsteps of such iconic industry names as Frank Pershke and Eric Tanzer fills me with a tremendous sense of pride.

“Hopefully, our more recent business achievements, including being at the forefront of full colour newspaper production for this country, and being at the vanguard of sheetfed press technology with DirectDrive, will still provide talking points for the industry for many years to come.”

On the topic of the recent Drupa trade show, Mr Revill added: “It was a highly successful event for manroland GB, as well as for the whole company worldwide. The new branding was a fantastic success – not only showing the company in a new and fresh light, but giving us a clean, clear and very recognisable image for the new and prosperous future that lies ahead for manroland. There was a positive attitude radiating from everyone involved in the business, and that certainly helped to make Drupa a resounding success for manroland.”

“From a UK perspective we were able to finalise a number of orders on the stand, and we met with a very good number of new prospects who were most impressed with the manroland exhibit. The display at drupa really did attract people to our stand. Many prospective new customers wanted to come and talk with us.”

Mitcham residents may well have seen the new corporate image displayed on signs and flags outside the building in Morden Road. Many more will certainly remember the company’s previous incarnation as Pershke Price Service Organisation (PPS/PPSO) based at Dover House, opposite the current manroland GB building.
