ROLAND InlinePerfector

ImageSheet turning - smooth and reliable The lowest mechanical strain on the sheet and thus the highest register accuracy and virtually no doubling, scratching and smearing - these are important advantages of the ROLAND InlinePerfector. The double-diameter sheet turning drum assures smooth sheet travel and transfer rhythm for consistently high print quality and the most precise front-to-back register. And it is also an extremely compact design.

Design principle is the decisive factor Premium-quality perfected sheets not only depends on a well-designed sheet turning unit; the decisive factor is the design of the entire press. And here the ROLAND InlinePerfector of the ROLAND 500 and ROLAND 700 has the ideal prerequisites. With double-diameter impression cylinders the sheet is fully printed before it is transferred to the next printing unit which avoids transfer streaks.

Safe sheet transport The sheet is safely transported into the delivery over a sheet guiding system with individually adjustable air tracks that can be quickly switched from suction air to blast air. The relatively flat delivery geometry assures gentle sheet transport. Steady power transmission from the drive with an additional longitudinal shaft for long perfectors assures the best acceleration register and the lowest mechanical wear. And the sheets are stacked precisely in the AirGlide delivery even at the highest speeds. An especially flat sheet ascent area with a long stabilization path ensures optimal sheet travel.

Two sides, one quality Recto or verso side? With OptiPrint jackets one can’t tell this any more. These jackets with their specially- textured, ink-repelling surface are fitted to the impression cylinders in all printing units downstream of the sheet turning system. They are an manroland development and have been proven for many years with the ROLAND 700 and are now used for the ROLAND 500 as well.

Perfecting saves time Only one sheet pass instead of two with extra drying and waiting time in between - this saves time: mostly a few hours but also as much as half a day or a full day (depending on plant organization). And the print finishing operations can start sooner and the job can be delivered to the customer sooner as well.

Simplified organization With this type of production much less planning is needed: nobody has to decide when the first pass is dry enough to go through the press a second time.

Simplified materials handling There are no longer any piles of half-finished jobs taking up space on a multitude of pallets or pile boards waiting to dry and which must be moved around. Instead the printed sheets can go immediately to the finishing operations.

Less powder Because a second pass through the press is avoided an unpleasant task for the printer is avoided as well - de-powdering prior to a second sheet pass. This has to be done by blocking a printing unit for this purpose or else so much powder builds up on the blanket cylinder of the first printing unit that it must be frequently washed (sometimes every 2000 sheets).

ImageSuccess with long perfectors The Kriechbaumer printing company in Taufkirchen close to Munich in Germany attributes its success to the ROLAND 700 and ROLAND 500 long perfectors. Kriechbaumer produces brochures, catalogues, financial reports, flyers, leaflets, zigzagfolded brochures, folders, books and magazines for manufacturers of brand name articles, especially the automobile, computer and pharmaceutical industries, along with insurance companies and banks. The company serves the quality market and works directly for industrial companies as well as agencies. Most of the jobs have run lengths of up to 10 000 but also quite a number have run lengths of up to 200 000.

Most of the printing at Kriechbaumer is done on one twelve-color and two ten-color ROLAND 700 presses in the 70 x 100 cm format class and one eight-color ROLAND 500 in the 50 x 70 cm format class. But they also have a two-color and a four-color ROLAND 700 as well. All presses are equipped with the ROLAND InlinePerfector and mainly run in perfecting mode.

Technical Director Raimund Hauser explains the enormous growth that long perfectors have made possible: "In 1998 our output was around 40 million sheets printed both sides. By 2005 this had climbed to some 120 million, we tripled our output between 1998 and 2005!"

The Kriechbaumer printing company with its staff of about 160 people has the following competitive advantages:
  • Consistently high product quality
  • Dependably fast deliveries mainly due to perfecting production
  • Customer relationships built up over many years
