ROLAND InlineCoater smart - flexible enhancement for commercial printing Inline coating has been common practice for many years, above all for packaging printers who coat almost every job. More and more commercial printers are interested in inline coating as well but since most of them only coat occasionally they cannot justify the cost of a coating module with extended delivery. This is why manroland has developed the ROLAND InlineCoater smart.
This system is very suitable for occasional and simple applications of dispersion coating (protective and matt or gloss coating) on paper and light board. The printing unit equipped with the ROLAND InlineCoater smart can be changed over from printing to coating and vice versa within a reasonable time. It can be fitted to the last printing unit of all ROLAND 700 straight printing or perfecting presses.
Flexible through variable technology The ROLAND InlineCoater smart features an anilox roller/closed chambered doctor blade system with a swiveling mechanism. When the coating mode is selected the plate cylinder guard is opened and the InlineCoater Smart swings in to the blanket cylinder. The anilox roller has a 9 g/m2 carrying capacity which is suitable for the type of applications the system is designed for. The coating is fed from a mobile supply unit with two hose pumps and the attendant coating transport hoses for coating inflow and outflow (footprint 600 x 750 mm). A newly-developed IR/hot-air dryer "ROLAND Seccomatic smart" is available for the standard (non-extended) AirGlide delivery.
Many advantages Due to its positioning at the delivery side of the printing unit and swing-in/out design the ROLAND InlineCoater smart offers many advantages over comparable systems from other press manufacturers:
The blanket washer can continue to be used in the normal manner. Nor are there any constraints on the function of the optional impression cylinder washing unit.
Thanks to the swing-in/out design the anilox roller and the chambered doctor blade can be easily removed. The surface of the anilox roller can be cleaned without needing to remove the roller from the unit.
Changeover from coating to printing mode is fast since the InlineCoater smart only needs to be swung to its park position.
